Second Tuesday of each month at noon in the Sola Room

SBA book group is attacking Helen Macdonald’s H is for Hawk, winner of a 2014 Samuel Johnson Prize (for best British nonfiction work written in English), the 2014 Costa Book of the Year (recognizing Irish and English authors), and the 2016 Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger (best novel or essay translated into French), along with being short-listed for three other literary awards.

The book’s emotional core is Macdonald’s year training a young goshawk in an effort to promote her grieving process following the precipitous loss of her father, Alisdair Macdonald, a renowned photojournalist. She touches on natural history, memoir (her own and others’), and the nature of wild things.

All are welcome to join in the fun and lively discussion that takes place on the second Tuesday of each month at noon in the Sola Room of the University Club. Please contact Gretchen Hewlett (450-8186 or[email protected]) to arrange to get a copy of the book (provided by the Book-Club-In-A-Bag program through the Santa Barbara Public Library).

Lunch is $20 for non-UClub members.
