A fourth generation Californian, Joy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley, then lived in Paris where she studied language at the Sorbonne and design and art history at Academie Charpentier. That experience inspired a lifelong fluency in French and ignited a passion for exploring art and culture around the world. Returning from abroad, she began her career as curator and corporate art consultant in one of the most prestigious galleries in the U.S.

Joy then became an executive for two award-winning San Francisco-based advertising agencies. During that time, she was responsible for overseeing all phases of national and international promotion for a roster of prominent clients including Royal Viking Line, Fairmont Hotels, Levi Strauss and Hunt-Wesson. She was adept at identifying emerging trends, developing new creative solutions and managing the varied functions within the agencies to deliver optimal results.

A knack for trend -spotting, combined with her abilities as an astute and talented entrepreneur led to Joy's next career move. Recognizing a new opportunity in the interior design and home furnishings arena, she formed Buy Design, an innovative business model giving consumers a new way to access showrooms. After selling the company, she successfully put her insights and ingenuity to work growing other businesses with JPB Consulting.
